Harvest Site Recorder — Privacy Policy

Overview

Harvest Site Recorder is a data collection tool used by invited US forestry professionals to record harvest site information. The app is developed and operated by BWA Design LLP on behalf of the American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC), which owns and controls the data collected. This policy explains what data is collected, how it is used, and how your privacy is protected.

What we collect

When you use the app, you may submit:

  • Harvest site location (geographic coordinates)

  • Dominant species harvested (optional) — the primary species taken during the harvest. Please note that species data is not currently incorporated into our monitoring tools but is collected for potential future use

  • Harvest type (optional) — indicated on a thinning-to-clearcut scale

What we do not collect

We do not collect your name, company name, email address, phone number, or any other personally identifiable information through the app's recording function. Submissions are not linked to your identity.

How we use this data

Submitted data is used solely to train and improve satellite-based forest monitoring and harvest detection systems developed for AHEC. Data is used in aggregate and is not used to identify, track, or report on individual foresters, properties, or companies.

Data ownership and storage

Data collected through this app is owned by the American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC). Data is transmitted securely and stored on protected servers managed by BWA Design LLP on AHEC's behalf. Access is limited to personnel directly involved in system development and validation.

Tester access

This app is distributed to a limited group of invited testers via Apple TestFlight and Google Play Internal Testing, using developer accounts held by BWA Design LLP. It is not publicly available.

Data retention and deletion

Submitted harvest site data is retained for 5 years from the date of submission, to support long-term model training, validation, and monitoring of forest cover change over time. After this period, data is permanently deleted from our systems.

Your choices

Species and harvest type fields are optional and may be left blank. You may stop using the app and request removal from the tester list at any time by contacting us (see below).
